Slim Pickings' extensive equipment list -
The variety
of venues we play mean we need flexible, high quality equipment
to ensure we deliver an excellent visual and musical experience.
We own all our own equipment and it has delivered faithfully,
gig after gig, for many years. We have backup equipment in nearly
all instances and the show will go on!
Front
of house -
Slim Pickings have a fantastically versatile 1000w Yamaha PA desk,
running our 2 x 650W JBL EON's and 2 x Peavey 400w tops, ensuring
we can be truly multi-directional. This is important as vocals
tend to be 'straight line', meaning that we sometimes need to
use four speakers to make sure the vocals are clear and high in
the mix. We use a low pass filter, a 500W Carlsbro power amp and
two thumping great Peavey 15" Black Widow subs to add the
bottom to our sound.
We can run
an iPOD or any other external source through the PA where needed.
Given advance warning, we can use Ableton LIVE, or PC/DJ, on a
laptop to mix suitable music for when we are not playing.
Monitors
-
Peavey and Samson powered wedges mean that our vocalists know
exactly what they are singing. So no excuses for a bum note!
Mics
-
We use Shure, AKG and Samson mics.
Drums
-
Dave uses Tama drums and Sabian cymbals, or a Roland TD12 electronic
kit.
Backline
and Guitars -
Steve uses a Gallien Krueger bass Rig, comprising of a 2x10"
cab and a 15" cab with an 700-RBII bass head. It can deliver
480w - so its rarely turned up past two! He has three gigging
guitars, a Warwick Streamer Stage I NT, a Gibson USA SG Reissue
and a Fender Geddy Lee Signiture
Si uses an
Ibanez AW40 acoustic and a Washburn W15 Electric
Dave uses
a variety of Peavey Wolfgang Guitars, three in total, through
an all valve Marshall amp. The amp is supposedly 'only' 100w -
but an all valve Marshall never sounds less than its rating!
Lights
-
We bring our own lights - PAR56 cans to light the band and scanners,
lasers and smoke machines for the dance floor. It adds to the
look and creates the perfect party atmosphere.
The
Slim Pickings setup, on any night, will nearly have cost £15,000
- we invest in the best. And we know how to use it - so you get
the optimum sound whatever the venue.
