Meet the band!
The
current Slim Pickings line up have a collective 80+ years of
gigging experience, with 100's of gigs. We have all played Corporate
gigs, Weddings and Parties, plus some of the best venues on
the local club/pub circuit.
And
what a handsome lot we are. We are generally quite shy people
and we would much prefer it if you made the first move. To avoid
embarrassing silences when we 1st meet, get to know us better
here. Then hit on us. Simple.
Gary
Talbot
A
drummer like no other, a great recent addition to the
band. Gary can funk with best, or drive a rock song like
a train. Whatever the style, he has the groove to keep
the rest of us rock solid. Gary joins us after 20 years
of gigging with local bands at top rate venues like the
Horns, the Keller and the Stag.
Gary
plays Tama drums and Zildjian cymbals.

Si
Bown
A true showman,
with more front than Sainsbury’s, Si’s approach to the
band offers it the charisma and power it needs. Si has
had a passion for singing that goes back years. He’s a
natural, entertaining and engaging the crowd expertly.
Too many bands just have singers. We have a front man!
Outside of the band he’s a keen golfer and lies his way
to some fantastic scores. He’s also a top notch painter/decorator
if you need his services!
Si uses Shure mic’s,
Peavey monitors and an Ibanez AW40 Acoustic.

Steve
Hollingsworth
Steve has been playing bass for 20 years and has been
playing in bands almost as long. Aside from the bass,
he is a keen but average guitarist and even worse drummer!
Steve formed Slim Pickings back in 2004, with then drummer
Dave Bateman. He has also colaborted with Dave May in
Double JD. Prior to those bands, he spent nearly a decade
with Alphabet Rug, a four piece funk/soul/rock band, playing
the corporate, wedding and local pub/club circuits.
Steve
plays Warwick basses through Gallien Krueger amps. |

Dave
May
Our lead guitar virtuoso. Generally quite quiet on stage,
Dave is a very talented and incredibly versatile guitarist
who tear his way through a Clapton solo, then funk it
up like Steve Cropper the song after. He is always on
the money, playing the tasteful, melodic leads that suit
the song. A seasoned pro, Dave has worked with Steve for
the past six years in Slim Pickings and Double JD. Prior
to this he played the London circuit and corporate scene
with Papa Grazi and Green Side Down.
Dave
plays Peavey guitars through Marshall amps

Rachel
Kilbride
Another very experienced band member, who has sung in
numerous previous bands, inclduing some with DM. Rachel
has a soft sweet voice when required but can crank it
up and belt it out with the best on the upbeat numbers.
With her trade mark harmony lines, Rae compliments Bowny
brilliantly. The ability to play songs with both male
and female leads adds to our diversity - and her full
on style suits the rest of the band perfectly.

John
D'Souza
John's
keys give the band the depth to take on the variety of
music in our set. From playing straight piano on a Beatles
song, to copying horn parts, and then on to funky Moog
- John covers them all with style and ease. Having such
a versatile second instrument in such talanted hands is
the key to keeping our sets diferent, fresh and exciting.
Having played in bands for nearly 20 years, John adds
to our experience.
John
uses Korg keyboards and Mackie amps.
